This book is a great resource for any college histology course! The text is easily understood within its context and is very well written and informative in a well organized fashion. When it comes to histology recognizing tissues is very important and this text does a wonderful job of demonstrating images of what each cell tissue should look like and it relative functions in addition to where its located in the body. It specifies magnification, identifying features, and its usage in the body as well. the online version is easily read, scrolling up and down the page, increasing the text size, moving through pages, etc. I highly recommend this book in e-textbook form as its easier to access now that most students constantly have their laptops or phones and there is no need to be lugging a heavy book around. The e-version of the book is also very easy to highlight and right annotations on which can later be easily searched and highlighted material can be found in one location instead looking through every single page, its almost like having an electronic notebook without having to write out personal notes. Overall I highly recommend this product!

This is the recommended textbook for our histology class. I don't read every word of it. I only look at the graphs and the explanation, and that really helps. My professor also uses a lot of graphs from this textbook, so having a more detailed explanation helps a lot. Overall, this is a clear, concise textbook that's not completely necessary but a good supplement.

Great textbook that'll get you through histology or help you review it if you've forgotten things. This is more like a condensed histology text, not a replacement for texts like Junequiera's Histology.

College level text on Histology. There are newer versions available but if you need a reference then this one will do.

This book has a good selection of images, but in my opinion not enough. Histology is a lot about seeing slides and memorizing how different tissues etc look like, and I wish this book had more examples of each category with better image quality.

Any statistical analysis of a realistically sized data-set requires the use of specially written computer software. An Appendix introduces the reader to our open-source software of choice, R, whilst the book's web-page includes downloadable data and R code that enables the reader to reproduce all of the analyses in the book and, with easy modifications, to adapt the code to analyse their own data if they wish. However, the book is not intended to be a textbook on statistical computing, and all of the material in the book can be understood without using either R or any other computer software.

About the Author

Peter Diggle is Distinguished University Professor of Statistics and Associate Dean for Research in the School of Health and Medicine, Lancaster University, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biostatistics, Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and Adjunct Senior Researcher in the International Research Institute for Climate and Society, Columbia University. Between 1974 and 1983 he was a Lecturer, then Reader, in Statistics at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Between 1984 and 1988 he was Senior, then Principal, then Chief Research Scientist and Chief of the Division of Mathematics and Statistics at CSIRO, Australia. He has published nine books and around 180 articles on these topics in the open literature. He was awarded the Royal Statistical Society's Guy Medal in Silver in 1997, is a former editor of the Society's Journal, Series B and is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association.

Amanda Chetwynd is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Student Experience and Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at Lancaster University. Before joining Lancaster University she held a Post-Doctoral position in the Mathematics Department at the University of Stockholm. She has published three books and around 80 refereed articles. Amanda was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in 2003 and in 2005 led Lancaster's successful bid for a Postgraduate Statistics Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
