This is one of the best books I have found on the subject. There are a lot of useful real world tips and tricks sprinkled throughout the book. It has come in handy lot at work. The author is fairly concise in presenting fairly difficult materials. I would recommend this book for any aspiring Linux administrators. Unfortunately it does not cover anything outside of the base packages included with the RHEL/CentOS distributions, but it is definitely a great starting point.

While waiting for this book I had the opportunity to try and use a number of the other RHEL7 RHCE guides and found them all rather disappointing. This author's RHEL6 guide was the one I made the most use of when studying for my RHCE, and this guide looks like it's of the same high quality. I don't envy him the task of learning all the changes in RHEL7 and incorporating them into this new book! It looks like he hit most of them.I was a bit annoyed that he hand-waves past one of the biggest RHEL7 changes-- network interface naming. He notes that one can configure a network interface to be called 'eth0' and then proceeds to use minimally changed examples from RHEL6. I would have liked to have seen more of a RHEL7-ish way of doing things rather than a quick and dirty "keep it like RHEL6" approach, but I also understand that if we waited for this book to be perfect, RHEL8 probably would already be released before the "perfect" book would be.I've also had trouble finding the online errata. The site they list for downloads and errata doesn't seem to know this book exists yet. Maybe it's still too new.

Well well worth the price and then some. Great book if you are already experienced with linux, I've found so many other books to be an extreme bore because they start out with trivial command line basics and linux fundamentals. This books dives right in to more advanced concepts more importantly the objectives covered in the RHCSA. If you are a total linux beginner this is not the book for you, but if you already have a good start and have been doing some administration you will very much enjoy the switch up from the 'every day linux book' to exciting tasks.While I have found some issues with some of the tasks outlined in the book not going exactly as shown in the examples, I'm not sure if that is intentional or not. It may be totally intentional that some of the tasks do not work as shown to get readers to find the issue themselves. For example in chapter 2 Michael outlines using virt-clone and provides a working example, while the example does clone the VM it does not properly create a new unix socket for the vm or set permissions on vm image, and the selinux contexts must be set as well - without applying these the VM would not start for me. The thing about this is that I very much enjoyed figuring out why the VM would not start on my own and I learned something else out of that exercise besides 'just cloning a virtual machine' .So far this book was great, and along with a FULL COPY of the book in PDF format, all the labs in PDF format, as well as content for the labs, its an exceptional value for the price of the book.5/5 stars!!

The do to book when it comes to getting certified.Used Mr. Jang's RHEL 6 book to get certified last time and am using this one (RHEL 7) to get updated.Complete and proven in my case, PDF's included for on the go studying, with no DRM!

The book is great (I have not taken the RHCSA 7 test since I started using this book). I have read other RHCSA 7 books and feel this is the superior book. The information for the different tasks is concise. I really appreciate this fact. I'm not a super smart person so I need things to be explained clearly. My only complain would be the fact that the author provides the minimal amount of information on the different subjects. In order to get a deep dive of certain things, I had to do some self study on the matter. However, the author makes this fact clear from the very beginning. He advises that the book will not cover everything you need to know on a topic and that RHCSA 7 attempts are not for Linux beginners. He also suggests additional study material if you're a newbie or alternate certifications that would be more appropriate for a less experienced Linux user/administrator. If you have a decent Linux background (regardless of distribution) and can move around in the command line and do simple stuff, or have a little bit of Red Hat experience, this book is for you. If you lack an overall understanding of Linux, the command line, directory tree structure, configuration files, etc. this book will certainly teach you things but you'll have to fill the knowledge gap with more "beginner" level study material.

About the Author
Mason Malmuth was born and raised in Coral Gables, Florida. In 1973 he received his BS in Mathematics from Virginia Tech, and completed their Masters program in 1975. While working for the United States Census Bureau in 1979, Mason stopped overnight in Las Vegas while driving to his new assignment in California. He was immediately fascinated by the games, and gambling became his major interest.

After arriving in California he discovered that poker was legal and began playing in some of the public cardrooms as well as taking periodic trips to Las Vegas where he would play both poker and blackjack. In 1982 he went to work for the Northrop Corporation as a mathematician and moved to Los Angeles where he could conveniently pursue his interest in poker in the large public cardrooms in Gardena, Bell Gardens, and Commerce.

In 1983 his first article Card Domination The Ultimate Blackjack Weapon was published in Gambling Times magazine. In 1987 he left his job with the Northrop Corporation to begin a career as both a full-time gambler and a gambling writer. He has had over 600 articles published in various magazines and is the author or co-author of 14 books. These include Gambling Theory and Other Topics, where he tries to demonstrate why only a small number of people are highly successful at gambling. In this book he introduces the reader to the concept of non-self weighting strategies and explains why successful gambling is actually a balance of luck and skill. Other books he has co-authored include Hold em Poker For Advanced Players, written with David Sklansky, Seven-Card Stud For Advanced Players written with David Sklansky and Ray Zee, and Small Stakes Hold em: Winning Big with Expert Play written with Ed Miller and David Sklansky. All the advanced books are considered the definitive works on these games.

Good book. But it's a pitty that the condition is not very ideal.

Good reading!

This opening line from Diogenes Laertius (as translatedby Robert Drew Hicks) neatly sums up the approach ofDiogenes in compiling this amazing amount of materialabout the ancient philosophers. Some of the materialis valuable, some is stuff...but even the "stuff" ispretty interesting coming from such an "ancient"compilier (one dating for Diogenes is (ca. A.D. 225-250). According to Herbert S. Long in his "Introduction"to Vol. 1 (there are 2 volumes in the complete set ofthe Loeb Classical Library Diogenes published by HarvardUniv. Press -- Vol. 1: ISBN 0-674-99203-2 and Vol. 2:ISBN 0-674-99204-0) -- Diogenes ranges from being asource of valuable information about the lives of theancient philosophers to a source of highly readable,even entertaining, but sometimes unreliable thoughtbites. A few things Long has to say are: "His account of Plato,one of his longest, clearly shows how superficial andunreliable he was [sigh...]." "The tone of his work asa whole suits better a man of the world who happened tobe interested in philosophers, but more as men and writersthan as philosophers in a technical sense." Which meansthat Diogenes can appeal to the general reader who isinterested in anecdotes and fascinating out-of-the-waypuns and "gossip" about the philosophers (as compiledfrom tomes of secondary and tertiary sources)-- as wellas to the scholar interested in seeing the effect ofa compiler/synthesizer as a source of information.According to Long, again, "Diogenes has acquired animportance out of all proportion to his merits becausethe loss of many primary sources and of the earliersecondary compilations has accidentally left him thechief continuous source for the history of Greekphilosophy." Volume I of the 2-volume set includes Books I throughV, containing a "Prologue" and going from the beginningwith Thales in Book I to Aristotle at the beginning ofBook V. Volume II begins with Book VI and goes throughBook X, with Antisthenes at the beginning of Book VIand ending with the entire Book X devoted to Epicurus. Diogenes starts out his work by taking to task thosewho claim that philosophy arose among the barbarians,who rest their claims with the Persians and their Magi,the Babylonians and Assyrians with their Chaldaeans,the Indians with their Gymnosophists, and the Celtsand Gauls with their Druids. But Diogenes assertively states: "These authors forgetthat the achievements which they attribute to thebarbarians belong to the Greeks, with whom not merelyphilosophy but the human race itself began." [!!!] One example of his interesting material concernsthe ancient figure of "Linus": "Linus again was (soit is said) the son of Hermes and the Muse Urania. Hecomposed a poem describing the creation of the world,the courses of the sun and moon, and the growth ofanimals and plants. * * * Linus died in Euboea, slainby the arrow of Apollo, and this is his epitaph: Here Theban Linus, whom Urania bore,/ The fair-crowned Muse, sleeps on a foreign shore." Very provocative...certainly worth deeperinvestigation...so, why not plunk down your dollars andhave a go at Diogenes!

One demerit because this book is definitely not new. Significant shelf wear and there was...something...all over the dust jacket.I've laughed out loud on more than one occasion while reading. Very entertaining and enjoyable read.

Diogenes Lartius' Lives of the Philosophers is a flawed work by an unsinspired thinker and poetaster. His work is, however, indispensable to the student of ancient western thought and writing, as his quotations of many earlier philosophers, poets, and miscellaneous writers, whose works have perished, have left a large body of fragments for the historian to collect and analyze. The organization of Diogenes' work into successions of philosophers and schools of thought provided the foundation for the subsequent organization of the history of ancient philosophy. Interspersed throughout his fascinating book, full of legends and tidbits about the lives of individual philosophers, Diogenes Laertius has preserved entire bibliographies, reports of raging philosophical controversies, as well as poetry (including his own very mediocre compositions). This work is a must-read for the serious student of ancient western thought.

We know but very little, if not almost nothing about Diogenes Laertius. However, this book, written, compilated by him is of tremendous, by far even underestimated IMPORTANCE FOR OUR KNOWLEDGE OF GREEK PHILOSOPHY. The shortage of biographical data is rather remarquable while he wrote no less than 82 biographies of the antique thinkers and their theories. In his work one can easily distinct an inexhaustive passion for "COMPLETENESS", which turns out quite HUMORISTIC ... This tune makes it a real delight to read this superb collection of his "memories", the result of the tremendous MEMORY (and work, research) he must have had.He wrote down EVERYTHING HE KNEW and almost didn't note any differentiation in his own "communications". LAERTIUS STANDS FOR THE ENCYCLOPAEDIC AUTODIDACT, a man who always excells in zeal ... and lack of being fastidious and scepsis towards his subject. His so IMPORTANT, MARVELOUS LIFEWORK contains - in 10 books - the description of the lives of about 80 philosophers, from the "SEVEN WIZARDS" until Epicure.While the vast majority of the sources out of which Diogenes Laertius collected his knowledge have definitely dried up, are destroyed, HIS COMPILATION about the life and the doctrines and theories of all the famous Greek thinkers that were known to him, IS OF INVALUABLE IMPORTANCE up until today for life itself, for history and of course for philosophy. We very probably would never have known now about "his protagonists", about Greek philosophy.What is more, thanks to the many anecdotes, epigrams, letters, citations, testaments, etc... THIS OEUVRE IS EASILY READABLE ... WITH A LOT OF HUMOR !!However this is a book of REFERENCE (for philosophy), I RECOMMEND IT WARMLY TO ALL READERS: AN OUTSTANDING OEUVRE that is very RARE in its genre. YOU DO NOT AT ALL HAVE TO BE A PHILOSOPHER TO READ THIS: IT IS AS IF YOU READ A NOVEL ABOUT WHO DID WHAT. A BOOK THAT YOU WILL ENJOY (sic!) AND NEVER EVER IN YOUR LIFE WILL FORGET ABOUT!

En esta obra se relata e interpreta el Hain de 1923, celebrado en un tiempo en que los selknam ya se encontraban casi extintos, y documentado con sorprendentes fotografias por el sacerdote y antropologo Martin Gusinde.

Nacio en Los Angeles, Estados Unidos. Es doctora en antropologia con estudios en la Escuela Nacional de Antropologia (Ciudad de Mexico), en la Universidad de Columbia (Nueva York) y en la Universidad de la Sorbona (Paris). En estos centros academicos tuvo oportunidad de estudiar con Paul Kirchhoff, Alfonso Villas Rojas, Karl Polanyi (1957) y Claude Levi-Strauss (1962). A partir de 1955 realizo trabajos de campo en Honduras entre los tolupan (jicaques) y, desde 1965, entre los lencas. Hacia fines de 1964 viajo a Tierra del Fuego, en la Patagonia austral, formando parte de la Mision Archeologique Francaise au Chili Austral, bajo la direccion de la arqueologa Annette Laming-Emperaire. Se iniciaron asi sus trabajos de campo con los ultimos sobrevivientes selknam de Tierra del Fuego, especialmente con Lola Kiepja. En 1985, empezo a trabajar con las ultimas cuatro personas (mujeres) que hablaban el idioma yagan, en el sector chileno de Tierra del Fuego. Fue miembro del Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS, Paris) y ha publicado numerosos articulos en revistas especializadas y algunos libros como Drama and Power in a Hunting Society (1982), Los selknam, La vida de los onas (1986) y Hain Ceremonia de iniciacion selknam (2002). Tambien ha codirigido dos peliculas documentales sobre la historia de los selknam y los yaganes, y ha editado una importante recopilacion de cantos tradicionales selknam.
